  1. A credit card is a plastic card issued by a
  2. credit company, retail outlet, or bank, which
  3. enables the holder to obtain goods or 
  4. services on a specified credit limit, payable
  5. on specified terms. The first credit card was
  6. introduced 1950 in the USA. Some credit cards
  7. also act as bank cards to enable customers to
  8. obtain money more easily from various bank 
  9. branches. Intelligent credit cards are now
  10. being introduced that contain coded 
  11. information about the customer and the amount
  12. of credit still available. This can be read 
  13. by a terminal connected with the company's
  14. central computer. A number of intelligent
  15. cards were introduced in the 1980s, but not 
  16. all are credit cards. Some cards require 
  17. payment in advance such as phone cards,
  18. others debit the consumer's bank account 
  19. immediately on use.
